Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Tummy-tuck (Abdominoplasty) aims to restore a more youthful tummy profile which may have been affected by ageing, pregnancy and fluctuating weight. Skin laxity, rectus muscle separation and surgical scars (e.g. c-section) contribute to folds on the lower part of the tummy. Tummy-tuck removes excess skin folds with underlying fat from around the lower abdomen between the navel and the pants line. Skin from the upper abdomen is stretched downwards to replace the removed skin and the navel is stitched into position. This greatly improves the abdominal contour making you look slimmer and typically improving self confidence, body image and wellness.

IS THIS WEIGHT-LOSS SURGERY?

Abdominoplasty improves the body contour after weightloss or pregnancy related changes – you can be overweight but not significantly so. If your body mass index is 30 or more abdominoplasty is unlikely to be appropriate and risks of surgery are higher – you should ideally manage your weight so that BMI is below 30. You may have had gastric operations or weightloss injections to help you lose weight. These treatments do not ordinarily prevent you from having abdominoplasty.

WHAT IS BRAZILIAN TUMMY TUCK?

This is terminology which has been used to promote an already well-established procedure called lipo-abdominoplasty. Liposuction is used to help shape the upper abdomen, flanks and love-handle area and Abdominoplasty is also conducted to remove excess skin folds. The two techniques combined can give excellent definition to the tummy which is especially well suited for patients who are bulky between the navel and ribs.
